My beloved 720 does not stay with the airplane; I take it home each time to update and keep out of the weather (open hangar).

I fear that both the power plug and the external antenna connections will go bad at some point. Happened on my 700 antenna port and the unit was toast.

Would like to see a better solution; perhaps heavy-duty adapters that can stay on the unit permanently?

Thanks.

I second the motion. I've already had to replace one power cord because the plug came apart. There are better connectors out there (though larger and heavier).

On a related note, I recently added the external battery and found that mounting it within easy reach created on on/off switch. I now turn on the iFly 720 before the master switch - great feature.

No, before. The iFly is running off of the battery, and the battery will be charged by the aircraft electrical system once the master switch is turned on. I like having the iFly up and running and not adding to later stages of the check list. It's also my favorite toy, so it comes first!

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I, too, like the independence from the Master sw that the battery gives you. I bought the battery after having an in-flight electrical system failure and my other backup power source didn't work. Had I realized how handy it was to have a portable power source and the ability to power up the iFly before the Master sw, I would have probably purchased it a long time ago.
