Cobra - I was using that same "mis-step" when I was wishing I had the 720 in front of me. It just doesn't have the punch of the iFly.
Allow me to show my ignorance - I don't think they'd be a total rewrite involved in creating a web-based version; at least not in the sense of creating an iPad or Android version. Those basically require a complete re-write for new archetecture, whereas iFly is already written and running in a Windows CE environment. Plus the GPS, ADS-B, moving map, alerting, and other features important to actual flight could be stripped out. Supplement the touch screen functions with mouse/keyboard equivelents and it's basically ported to Windows. But now we've introduced the whole issue of maintaining current charts, etc. on your desktop and that's a nasty liability so the harder part is to make it run in a browser window, allowing AP to retain total control of users, charts, plates, etc.
Ed said it's a frequent topic at the water cooler, and that's great news. The FBO owner borrowed the Mooney for a flight to Michigan last week and came back bragging about the iFly (he uses a competitor on a tablet) and I know he didn't scratch the surface of the capabilities. Lord knows AP stays busy enough maintaining and enhancing what they've got, and I'm a very satisfied customer. But if Ed and the others were to keep a laptop bedside and code up a flight planning version while they slept... :)
