Greetings Walter or anyone using an iFly with X-plane for practice flying,

I have the following details from the iFly regarding using X-plane to drive the iFly.

My system will intermittently show the simulated position and details but losses its place and resets itself at my current home location d.uring the flight.

The serial data data port is configured as: COM 3, 4800, 8, none, 1, none

Here is what I see on the iFly720 when I hit the about button and then connected devices button:

External GPS Manager
(then I press the External Manager line and the following displays)

Active GPS:COM 2, 9600

other connected GPSes: COM 0, 4800

When I am getting good sim dataout of the iFly it appears that the only active GPS is the COM 0, 4800 (I think this is the X-plane output).

Could the system be getting confused and when there is an actual GPS signal it reverts back to its native mode. Any suggestions on resolving this issue?

I have not loaded the emulator program yet.

Thanks,

Paul

Yes, it's possible the system is getting confused and switching back to the native GPS. I didn't suspect this to be an issue, but can see how it might happen if the simulator isn't also simulating the GPS Signal Quality message. You can fix this by disabling COM2 (which is the internal GPS)...touch Menu / About / Connected Devices / Serial Ports, select COM2, then select Disable and save.

But before you try a real flight be sure and re-enable this port or you'll never have a GPS lock!

A restart of the aviation app is required after this change.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!
Walter

Thank you very much Walter. I did not want to change the config without understanding the consequences first. I will remember to reset the com 2 port before flying (for real that is).

I tried your suggestion but no joy. The options are: do not use, auto select and default gps. I tried repeatedly to select; do not use and every time I saved it and relaunched the iFly app it went back to default gps. I even tried to run it without relaunching but every time I looked at the about..other connected devices and serial ports it was set on default gps (not that I am complaining, it's better to always stay connected to the gps).

The only way I can not get a gps lock on the com 2 port is to set the gps into calibration mode. It takes a few minutes but the data is active for the X-plane until the iFly gps locks, then the iFly reverts to my actual location and ignores the X-plane. The iFly does not save the port configuration. Do you have any further suggestions? We are getting closer to a resolution.

Thanks again and....

Have a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year!

Paul
