Today I flew with 2 others of which one had a 700 like me. He constantly got locks on start-up where as I mostly had to wait till I was airborne. I even had 5 minutes of terrain warnings because it found me but didn't know what my altitude was (I guess it needed one more sateliite for the 3D).

I'm trying a cold restart out on the porch tonight to help it find sateliites. Maybe something changed that I'm not aware of. Any one else have problems today, (Saturday), up in the New England area ?? (RI, Mass, NH)

I had intermittent start-up (gps lock-on) problems until I added an external antenna. Even so, I've had transient difficulties flying near the vicinity of the "Pave Paws" radar restricted area (R-4101). Two weeks ago en route to Chatham at the north end of the Cape Cod canal, my gps experienced the electronic equivalent of a "tumble". The 740 recovered immediately without difficulty, but my Garmin 496 was "reset" and I later had to access the menu to restore my profile. (Pave Paws is an extremely powerful radar originally constructed to see incoming ICBM's "over the horizon") Yesterday (December 09) I flew to the Vineyard south of R-4101 and again noticed a "blip" in gps as I passed over Mattapoisett toward Woods Hole. anecdotal, but maybe a connection with Pave Paws?

Thanks, I've done the factory reset and will see how that works... Have been thinking of an external antenna, but have tried to stay away from having another wire dangling...
