I upgraded from 700 to 720 at sun n fun. I want Ads B and would have bought iLevel at show, but they were out. Has anyone tried the new iLevel SW or AW $1395 ? What does it provide for $1195 vs $849 skyradar ( note- out of stock on website ) Would appreciate a comparison and updated recommendation from Walter.

thanks

Rlogan, I can't tell you what the extra 600 dollars will get you but I can tell you that I have not, nor can I find anybody so far that has the SkyRadar and the iFly reliably talking to each other about traffic. I have the 720 and the D2 and ADSB out. I get weather great on the iFly but have not seen traffic. Your mileage may vary, but I don't think they work well together yet.

Jerry,

I am surprised you are not getting any traffice with ADS-B out unit. Mu Skyradar-L with the Ifly 700 works fine for weather, but no traffic. However, I don't expect to get much traffic. As an ADS-B IN unit, about the only traffic it will or at least should report is other aircraft with ADS-B Out (aircraft to aircraft).

To receive trafic from the ground based units, there still needs to be an ADS-B out; At least as far as I know from research.

Rlogan / Jerry,

I'm working on a comprehensive ADS-B comparison at this time. Recommending on is really hard a they all have such different niches they fill, like ultra-portability, battery powered, AHRS, ADS-B In/Out, connectivity and more.

What level of traffic you are looking for really matters as the ADS-B out or "Transceivers" are the only way to go to the most traffic. They wake up the ground transmission so you see more than just the ads-b 978 out aircraft. I'll have a chart up on our site shortly with all the compatible units, prices and feature details. Thanks for your patience. Have a great evening.

Jerry indicated he has ADSB out, as do I. I have never seen traffic on my 720 either, but my ipad w/WingX is lit up light a xmas tree with all kinds of traffic out there. Especially as I get into the terminal area of DFW, I see litterly dozens of planes from the ADS-R TIS info.
