After going wheels up today I realized that my iFly 740 was not displaying the POTUS TFR in NJ.  I don't know if this is a problem with the 740 or with  FIS-B updates.

I fly with both an iFly 740 in my panel, an iPad on my knee, and an iPhone velcroed to my side panel.   All devices receive TIS-B and FIS-B updates from a Stratux.   Today my iPad received updates from the internet prior to engine start but my iFly 740 did not.      Before engine start I saw the POTUS TFR on my iPad and planned a route to avoid it.      During the 3.5 hour flight from KPYM to KXLL and back my 740 was constantly receiving  traffic  and weather updates.  However, it  never displayed the POTUS TRF in NJ (effective 8/4 to 8/17).  Shouldn' it have?    I was expecting the 740 to receive TFR updates via FIS-B.  I was stumped as to why it wasn't being displayed..   Traffic and weather updates were processing as expected.  I checked all display and alert settings to ensure they were not inhibiting the display.  Everything was set to display TFRs.   After the flight I connected the 740 to the internet and downloaded the weather/tfr update.   Once that was complete the POTUS TFR displayed as expected.

Is the above scenario an anomaly?   Does the iFly have to be connected to the internet to ensure that it has the latest TFR or can I expect the latest TFRs will be received in-flight via FIS-B?

Unfortunately it's been my experience that TFRs simply are not always sent via the ADSB network.  We've tested similar scenarios by creating an ADSB log file, and reviewing the feed byte by byte...sometimes a TFR isn't mentioned at all, and sometimes it doesn't include location data - so there is nothing to paint on the map.  If your iPad has a data plan, then it will get that data via the Internet.

Thank you Walter.  That explains it.   Updating the 740 from the internet prior to leavinig the hangar is now on my checklist.
