My wingman flys an RV-6 and I fly an RV-8.   We both have 740s, iPads and Stratux in the cockpit.  We are both experiencing problems with our 740s.   We flew to KOSH for AirVenture and noticed on a few legs that the 740 was not recieving traffic/weather updates from the Stratux but the Ipads were.   When trying to reconnect to the Stratux, the 740 would just show waiting for heartbeat, nothing else.   I was able to restore connections by powering down/up the Stratux.    Today I went out for an evening flight.   Prior to engine start my 740 was connected to my Stratux, with all green checks on the connection status page.  As soon as I started the engine, the 740 dropped the wifi connection to the Stratux and would not reconnect.  I even put the application in the background to get to the WiFi setting screen to see if I could connect to the Stratux.  No joy.  My phone and Ipad were still connected to the Stratux.    I then powered down/up the Stratux and was able to connect.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?    What additional info can I collect to help identify the root cause?

I don't know, but maybe your Stratux did not have enough power to stay connected to three devices.  Try connecting only the iFly 740 and see what happens.  Also, are you using a battery or 12v airplane source for the Stratux?  Maybe that's the problem.  IDK.

Sounds similar to a problem i had.  In the wifi page, tell iFly to "disconnect" from all the wifi networks it automatically connects to (the ones with "pre" beside them) until all are gone but the Stratux. For some reason, the 740 will occasionally drop the current connection and go through the list of "known" networks trying to connect to each one until it (hopefully) cycles back to the current network.  This is a known issue and this "solution" came from Adventure Pilot when I complained of frequent 740 disconnects.

Does the iFly have a feature to search for available WIFI networks?  If so, you might want to turn this off.

Thanks Jeff.  That definately helps.   My wingman and I have also changed our procedures.   We now keep our Stratux's off until engine start and away from the hangar.  Once enabled Wifi connections have not dropped.
