Yesterday, while on an IFR flight plan, I had to deviate 10 miles due to weather. Once I got around the weather I was instructed to proceed to the next waypoint and continue as filed.

When I go to my flight plan, I want to hover on the next waypoint and click "Direct To". Unfortunately, it seems that Ifly wants to replace my current flight plan with a simple direct to a waypoint. How do I have I fly return the the original waypoint or any other waypoint on the flight plan without deleting the flight plan?

I think I've asked this question before but yesterday reminded me of a "wish list" or need to be instructed. This is a pretty common scenario when flying an IFR flight plan (or directed to fly to the next waypoint and then continue as filed)

tks for your help

While flying, click the "Flight Plan" button in the lower left to bring up your flight plan. Find the waypoint you want to fly direct to, and click the "Direct To" button next to that waypoint.

I think this will delete the waypoints prior to the one you selected for "Direct To", so don't do this unless you're sure you won't backtrack.

Future waypoints will be preserved and will sequence in as normal after you pass your direct waypoint.

An alternate way to do what you want might be to grab your magenta line just before your desired "direct to" waypoint, and rubber-band it to your current location to add a new waypoint. I don't have my iFly handy so I can't test this, but I think the iFly will identify the segment between your current location and the next waypoint as the active segment, and you'll progress through the remainder of your flight plan as desired, but without losing the intermediate waypoints that you "skipped".

I've made sure this a feature on our wishlist. It could be done manually this way now, but that is a lot of button punches in an IFR situation. Basically, manually save the original plan, then go direct-to. Upon completion of that direct-to, go back and load the origninal plan.

This is a case where a seperate or secondary Direct-To feature would be handy. Basically to leave the active Plan intact and add a secondary direct-to plan, then an option to return to the prior/original plan. Great feedback guys.

Shane,

I'm glad to hear you are considering a more direct approach to a common problem. In the interim method you propose below, if I reload the original flight plan, which waypoint will the gps be directed to

It would navigate you to the next waypoint, based on your position. It's always looking at the next closest waypoint. It would not try and direct you from the beginning, if that is a concern. Hope this help.
