The problem has become even worse now. The unit won't recognize any usb drive I plug into it now. The one I had been using won't work and the new ones I bought won't either. I got a good Sandisk thumb drive and it works in my computer but still the 700 says its not installed. I tried formatting the drive and still no joy. I've tried 7 different drives 3 of which were new and the other 4 used to work and none work now. All of them show the files have been transferred to the drive. Any suggestions of other possibilities to try? Sure would be nice if there was an alternative that didn't require internet destroyer.

A note of user suggestion: from the navigation screen to the check for updates is ok but when it can't find the update I have to restart the navigation screen. It takes about 2 minutes for it to boot up and get back to where I was when I looked for updates. If this is normal than is there some way to make it go back to where you were instead of requiring the restart? In fact, is it possible to have the thing start up in the nav screen as I don't use any of the other stuff on the start page. If I do need it I can find it. No multimedia, no image viewer or any of that is useful to me. I just need a gps. I have a computer and tv at home for the rest.......

Frank,

I am sorry you are having this trouble. Here are a couple of things to look at.

First, you might try inserting the USB drive into the iFly with the power off (unplugged). Then with the USB in the iFly, power it on. Touch the Update button on the start screen. You should be prompted to Update from Wi-Fi or Internet (if connected) or from the USB Flash Drive. Select the USB Flash Drive and the update should proceed. I've seen where inserting the USB with the power on may not recognize the drive. By powering the iFly on with the USB drive inserted, it essentially forces the USB for be found prior to other processes.

Also, that brands, sizes of USB stick are you using. We recommend 2 or 4 gb versions of Sandisk, Lexar, Samsung, but not PNY. Larger USB cards are usually formatted in a exFat format and the iFly needs Fat32.

Also, iFly Connect only need IE for the initial install. After that, you would never need IE to run. You would have an iFly Connect program the Programs Folder (Adventure Pilot Folder). Just put a shortcut on your desktop and run it from the icon. It does not use IE. Just to install.

You can set the iFly to boot direct to Navigation. It is in the Setup menus from the Start Screen of the device. Turn iFly720 on, then Setup -> Tools (wrench & screwdriver icon), The first tab will give an option to boot to Main Menu or Navigation, select Navigation. Note: this will bypass the start screen so the setup, internet, multimedia won't be there. You'll just have to exit the iFly application to access that.

Thanks Shane,

I've tried inserting the USB drive with the unit off, on and in between. Still the same. The USB drive that was working 3 weeks ago is a duracell and I also had a Sandisk that worked most of the time. The sizes varied from 512MB to 2GB. I've since tried other sandisk drives all 2gb. None of them are working. I cannot use wifi since this is a 700 and I will not use IE for anything. It took a long time to get rid of the interfering programming and I won't reinstall just for this one thing. It shouldn't be necessary. I use Firefox and google chrome for browsers.

When my unit boots up it goes to the black screen with the buttons for all the various features and brings up a button asking if I want aviation or streets. I do have it set to go to navigation but I guess it wants to know which one. . . maybe thats why the "home" screen on startup? When it boots up there is no selection for updates and it doesn't bring up the "update found" box that it used to when a usb with a new update was inserted. I have to go the navigation screen, click the menu button and select check for updates. When it doesn't find the usb it pops up a box that says no usb installed. Then I have to hit the navigation button again to go back. Another minute or two later I'm finally back to the "yes I understand that I'm on my own" button and can get back to nav. Any way to make it automatically go back to nav with a shorter wait?

Thanks

Frank

Frank,

My apologies, I mistook that you had a iFly 720. On the 700 you would just see a Pop Up window with "Update Found" text.

I'd recommend calling us in the office. It will be easier and faster. I see a few possible issues.

  1. If this is not popping up, it is possible you have an incomplete update or you USB stick might need formatting. Insert the USB into your PC, then go to My Computer and right-click on the USB drive, then format using Fat32. Once the format is complete, try a small Weather & TFR Update (to test).
  2. You may not be downloading the Update File to your USB card, or you may be renaming it. I must remain "iFlyUpdatePackage.zip". If you are using Windows XP, be sure to eject your USB stick.

As for the Home Screen, you are correct "boot to navigation" forces the Aviation or Street. If this was not selected, you would have to push Navigation, then Aviation or Streets. With the latest Software, that Acknowledgment Page only pops once per day.

Give us a call, we'd be happy to walk you through some steps.

I will try calling. This is getting to be annoying. I have formatted all the USB's at least twice so thats not it. I don't change the file name and never have. It used to work and now it won't. Not sure what's changed....

Thanks

Frank
