Is there any place or potential for AOPA's new flight planning product, FlyQ (currently compatible with iPad and Android

platforms) to be uploaded to the iFly? Would be very cool for AOPA members....especially since, I think, FlyQ products are

free to us. It looks like iFly already covers most of the features of FlyQ and maybe the AOPA guys got energized by the iFly

product. But, free low enroute charts, prog charts, radar and satellite, within the navigation/sectional part of iFly

would be very cool. I know I can get much of that info via iFly internet access but that is still a little hinky (ie. zooming in on

ADDS satellite images or radar/wind maps is troublesome). Would be nice to have a satellite and radar option within the iFLy

navigator menu. That still wouldn't be real time in flight but, it would be handy.

Just askin, I love this GPS.

Gerry,

The FlyQ product AOPA has just introduced for the ipad is not a free product. It is very similar to many of the other ipad products as it is produced by Seattle Avionics. The program is free but the charts are not. I think the VFR charts are something like $69 and the full Ifr/Vfr is around $179. Check out the AOPA site for more details. I am actually downloading some charts for the trial and will try it on tomorrows flight to TN.

Rest assured I am not lookig for a replacement for the iFly. The ipad products I have tried are way too cumbersum and they are definately not intuitive like the iFly. The only reason I even consider them is to be used as a backup just incase. The same reason I carry a handheld radio. I currently have iChart loaded but it is a moving map only. There is no flight planning with it so it is very simple but the charts only cost $75 for the year (both ifr and vfr). the product I tried last week locked up so much that I finally deleted it in flight.

The iFly is hands down the best product. I am awaiting a TSO panel mount unit that will blow the competition away.

Tim,

Thanks for that. You're obviously much more informed about this than I am. Like I said, just askin.

I appreciate your response. I too, am very happy with my iFly 740.
