Does anyone know if there is an easy way to measue the distance between two points? I have created a flight plan with the two points and read the result there, but that seems unecessarily cumbersome. I was looking for something more like the little balloons that you can drop on the screen to find the distance from your current location, but maybe with the ability to drop two balloons on the map and read the distance between them in the balloon.

Thanks,

Rich

Richard - I like your idea of dropping twp ballones to find the distance between the two. This was what I was trying to get when I suggested "distance circles" a long time ago. When I flight plan, I draw a course line from my departing airport to my finial destination. (Let's say from Salt Lake City to Washington, DC.) Then I "rubberband" this line to convenant fuel stops (say about every 250nm to 300nm). If I could drop a ballon at each fuel stop airport as I work my way from SLC to Washington, DC, it would make it a lot easier to find the next fuel stop if I could drop a second ballon to see when I have gone another 250 to 300 nm.

Another slick way to do this that I have seen in another flight planning product, is to have the "second" ballon follow the curser. The distance is constancely updated as you move the curser.

Jim,

I, too am looking for a tool to use with flight planning. I live near the great lakes and often fly over water. Depending on my altitude, I like to know how wide that stretch of water is to determine if the shore is within my glide distance. It would be very convenient to just point to the screen and be able to see how far it is between two finger taps.

This is, of course, one of the great strengths of having a touch-screen - simple access to any point on the screen with just a tap. I hope Brian and the rest of the team see the value in this, though I'm sure they have a very long list of "cool" features waiting to be coded. They do such an awesome job!
