I have the early SkyRadar and don't get much traffic alerts in the lower 48 states, but when we went to Prudhoe Bay up in the Arctic, we were getting hits all the time due to the planes up in Alaska using Capstone. As soon a we got to Ketchikan, the hits started and stayed with us all the way up and back. It would be great if we could get this action in the lower 48 states.

Never mind, I found the traffic mode information in the manual!

I have an iFly 700 connected to the Skyradar-L ADS-B receiver. I finally got mine working (the problem was an old operating system in the iFly 700 that didn't have the correct software driver for the USB device). I now can see the ADS-B weather but I don't have any idea what I am looking for when or if I see ADS-B traffic alerts. I sat off the end of the runway at DCA and I got weather but no traffic alerts. I'll fly today and see if I get any traffic alerts.

S. Morgan,

We recently found out that SkyRadar changed the way they are reporting Traffic on the L, S and D models. The original development unit works with traffic, however they are reporting it differently now. We requested and just received a new SkyRadar unit to further develop and re-tune the traffic compatibility. Most other ADS-B receivers (NavWorx, Clarity, Stratus, etc.) support the GDL-90 and therefor we would support traffic for most of these receivers.

We will be looking into the new SkyRadar traffic protocol and develop accordingly. There may be a software update needed to address this issue. Thanks for your patience and understanding on this matter.

Finally! Explains why I could never see a red dot!

why not get the skyradar folks to correct their protocol? Or better yet be consistent with all the others?

I don't know about that....(original units works with traffic).....I did see traffic a very long time ago a handful of times but it has been non-existent for as long as I can remember. I'm flying in the NE, often in and around NY Bravo airspace. Traffic on my 530 is lit up like a Christmas tree. ADSB from Skyradar / iFly....zero.

I assumed it was the ADSB system itself but after reading this I wonder if somehow traffic communication between the devices may have been affected along the way. It's strange because I picked up traffic on my early flights with the units and then it just stopped.
