Using the iFly recently and programed in a route survey we were flying recently. We used it to fly the entire route following the purple line. I noticed there was no way to activate the flight plan. Went though the online manual and didn't see anything about activating legs, or getting turn warnings. Is this possible?

Hi there. I'm not an Adventure Pilot employee, just a user, but I think I can answer your questions:

1) Your flight plan becomes "active" as soon as you leave the flight planning screen and return to the moving map.

2) The iFly guesses at your location in the flight plan, using some combination of how close you are to the waypoints and what direction you're flying. Unlike panel-mounted GPS's like the Garmin 430, you can't select a leg and say, "Activate". You *can* select a point and choose "Fly direct to" to quickly get a magenta line from where you are to where you want to go. (I don't ever use this option, so I'm not sure if that replaces your current flight plan; you could test this by using the iFly's simulation mode.)

3) Again, unlike the 430, the iFly will not "round the corners" and give you instructions to lead-in to the turn. (Though if you ask for this feature, Walter may add it to the wish list for a future software version!)

Hope that helps.

That pretty much confirms how it behaved.

One suggestion that might help you with the "activate leg" desire: It's very easy to "rubber-band" your route on the moving map. I often do this, for instance, when instructed to make an extended base leg and report 2 miles out. You could also do this if you're between waypoints and want to start heading for a different leg--grab the proper segment, and rubber-band it to your current position (or slightly behind your current position). Delete any waypoints you are ready to skip, if they're interfering with the iFly's recognition of the waypoint you want to fly to.

This would quickly get you set up with a line to follow to the next waypoint you care about, without deleting the remainder of the flight plan beyond that waypoint.

Not looking so much to activate legs, but was looking or expecting it to provide an indication that a leg has already been flown, maybe turning it a different color? And also notification or alert that you are reaching your next waypoint. Kind of the way a tomtom tells you to "turn in one half mile".
