All:

We have only just received this report of a lock up with a SkyRadar attached. We are ordering a new SkyRadar from Redenna to see if there is a compatability issue with their latest hardware; I know they have made some changes, the SkyRadar we use has never caused a lockup. I will keep you posted as we learn more about this information.

Thanks,
Walter

Alasdair, no I didn't have anything connected except maybe the memory stick, sitting at my computer. I had it lock up again later last night. What I was doing was touching zoom out/in repeatedly, panning (sliding finger) fast. I'm getting ready to pull out the iFly to check on maps.

David, if your unit is locking up for no aparant reason I suggest you contact support to debug this issue. Your iFly should not be locking up, even with rapid panning/zooming/etc. In fact before any unit is shipped we execute a "stress test" for 4 hours where the software is panning/zooming/switching modes/pulling airport info at a staggering pace. We simulate a flight circling the US multiple times.

If you notice this happening with a thumb drive plugged in, it could be a compatability issue with that drive.

Thanks,
Walter

Walter - I had another 3 occurances of the lock-up issue this evening in the space of a 1-1/2 hour flight. The first time was shortly after take-off. I did a few wingovers etc and shortly thereafter noticed he GPS was locked up. Anyway after rebooting from that I put in my dinner destination and was cruizing along happily impressed by how well I was following the line on the ifly which remained very nicely centered. Then I noticed that the heading on my EFIS (not connected to the iFly) was a bit different from that one the iFly and realized that the unit had locked up again - touching or dragging the screen did nothing. I rebooted and it did it again about 10 minutes later.

FWIW - My SkyRadar isn't particularly new - it came from the 2nd group buy. However to be honest I spent the first couple of months with it trying to get both it and an NMEA stream for my EFIS both working through a hub. Of course that was unsucessful - weather was intermittent. Still I never received a lock-up during that period but then it wasn't really working.

Then along came 6.5.8 and the NMEA quit working so we worked though 6.5.10 and got the NMEA working again. I'd of course by that time given up on having both working and had unplugged the SkyRadar to concentrate on getting the NMEA issue.

As a result it was only a few weeks ago that I decided it was time to switch yet again and try to get the SkyRadar/weather working (figuring I'd come back to the NMEA for the EFIS when the TTL option was ready and finally have both). So, I unplugged the NMEA and plugged in the SkyRadar again on its own. First few flights it worked great and I even saw some Radar right where the weather looked to be. Very cool.

Recently however I've been getting frequent lock-ups. Whether they are SkyRadar related or just 6.5.10 I can't say at this point, but the SkyRadar has certainly been the only device connected whenever it has occured.

Anway, after my flight tonight I unplugged the SkyRadar and re-plugged in he NMEA for the EFIS. I'll monitor things in that set-up for the next couple of weeks and see if the lock-ups continue which should confirm one way or another whether the issue is related to the SkyRadar.

Apologies for the long waffling post!

Weather hasn't been too cooperative this week, however got a 2 hour flight in tonight and didn't have any issues without the SkyRadar connected so definately seems to point to an issue there. Would really like to see this resolved and avoid using the SkyRadar as a $900 doorstopper. Any suggestions welcomed.

FWIW - I am using a spare USB cable from a Garmin automotive GPS for the SkyRadar.

We are soon to be releaseing v7 to beta. Although we haven't specifically tested for this, we have some additional optimizations that may fix this problem. If you're on our beta list, you could download and test this idea. Full release is probably a month away.

Thanks,
Walter
