Do we even need to use the GPS puck with the Skyradar and Ifly? It comes with the package and has a magnet internal... Not great for the compass. Because the Ifly has it's own antenna, I didn't think we needed the Skyradar one attached.

That's a very good question. I just assumed we needed the SkyRadar GPS antenna so the unit would know which ground-based data radio to automatically tune. But why can't it just use the iFly interface to get it's coordinates?

Keep in mind if you just purchased a SkyRadar you are an "early adopter" which is only one step above a beta tester and with time everything should fall into place.

In fact, I 'm gonna play hookie from my desk this AM and go fly the unit for the first time. I can't stand the wait any longer.

The GPS puck should not be necessary for the iFly. This is used so they can show the aircraft location on their iPad / iPhone app, as those devices do not have a reliable internal GPS.

Does that mean that we actually bought a GPS unit that we will not use? if that is the case, maybe Radena can eventually produce a much cheaper unit without the GPS for use with the IFly.

I doubt it: The raw hardware cost for a GPS chipset and antenna is nominal compared to the development, QC and support cost of supporting multiple hardware platforms.
