How does iFly handle DC SFRA flight plans when filing? Is it smart enough to file two, the VFR plan and the underlying DCSFRA ifr coded plan? Or do they have to be put in manually?

I have flown into the SFRA and FRZ 100+ times and would recommend, perhaps just for these instances, to CALL and TALK to someone capable of talking SFRA and FRZ, as things like TFRs and temporary SUA pop-up all the time in that area.  The folks you talk to (usually Potomac) will keep you out of trouble.  In fact, I would get THAT number and file exclusively with them (that is what I do).

Perhaps you already do this and I am "preaching to the choir"  about this, but in this region, SFRA and FRZ violations are somewhat common over needless and usually totally preventable procedures.

Best wishes flying into the area - and I highly encourage folks to continue to fly into the FRZ and land at College Park, which has an incredible FBO with a world-class aviation museum attached!

As long as we are on the subject, the exclusive telephone contact (no online filing) for FRZ flight plans will be Washington Center as of March 29. Here's a link to the advisory. The formal NOTAM is expected by March 15

I just read the link to the SFRA Flight Plan issue, but that FAA notice didn't say a thing about filing flight plans into the SFRA when are filed from say Dallas on a non-stop flight.  The directive seems a typical FAA response to a problem with a politician, but does not really help any or many.

Could not agree more! The latest circular to inform pilots flying into the FRZ (more restrictive than the SFRA) took 21 lines of text and a bunch of legaleeze to tell us the phone number to call to file has changed...and you really had to dig to find the number. Seems like some folks go out of their way to make things harder, not smarter. 

Still, flying into the SFRA and FRZ is very helpful. 

Pilots should know flying into College Park provides the METRO to anywhere in DC for about an additional $5.00.  Puting up with all the changes and caveats is still well worth the hassle of not driving into DC and then paying for parking. Mike
