My first post on this issue was January 2011. I continue to use the IFly700 and thought I'd get over the brightness issue, but I find that I cannot. I mount my 700 on the windshield using the mount provided. I have flown with it several times this winter usually under an overcast - I've never used it on a sunny day. I have the brightness set to max and the 700 display appears 'washed out' - especially if on a sectional display. I have used a Lowrance Airmap 2000C for years and I'm sad to say that in my opinion the 700 display doesn't compare favorably. Perhaps a contrast function would alleviate this problem. My eyes are 60 yrs old - I suspect many of the other 700 owners are at least that age. Lack of a vivid display is a real negative to me. Is there any chance that some improvement in this area could be made? It would greatly appreciated and make a good product even better.

I'm sorry you are not happy with the screen brightness. We will begin selling sun-visors for the iFly at Sun-n-Fun, which may help your situation. If you want to order one now you can call us Monday (1-888-200-5129). I also have a 3M screen overlay being sent for testing, if that helps any I'll let you know.

Thanks,
Walter

I'm having the same problem. I'm in Arizona with a PA22 with a skylight. It is unusable as is. I'll try the sun visor if I can get one soon. I don't want to extend beyond the return policy trying fixes. Otherwise the unit is great.

I fly a Liberty XL2 which basically is a glass bubble of a cockpit. Yes, I would like a more vibrant display but i don't see how to make it much brighter over a chart background. I find it to be completely usable - especially if you actively use the zoom feature (VFR use only so far). My Gamin 530 is much easier to see but also provides nowhere near the benefits and ease of use that the iFly provides (at a fraction of the price).

There is no way a paper chart is easier to read or use. I've had some luck leaving the mount joints just lose enough so I can adjust the viewing angle as needed. Adding a hood should benefit and I might experiment with different sizes but overall it's fully usable under any condition I have come across. My biggest visual issue is the instrument fields. The small seem too small and the big take up too much space.
