Thanks for the info, Sam. I have been turning my phone to airplane mode thinking that this may be causing my lost signal. I'm almost positive it was in airplane mode for my return flight, but did not check as part of my trouble shooting. I actually ordered a new external antenna (currently panel mounted with external on glare shield) thinking my current antenna was bad. The antenna is good however, because when I disconnect it from the back, I quickly lose some signal strength. Good thing as I never received the antenna - thank you USPS...
I plan on doing a shake down flight this week to see if I can maintain connection between the iFly and iLevel, and to see if I ever lose it on the iPad (don't think I do, however I didn't have my iPad on the whole flight last week as I usually do not fly with it. Only use it for back up charts/plates).
One thing I'm considering is if beta software could be causing issues. I became an ifly owner through the purchase of an airplane and when I first updated the unit, it said that the serial number is a beta tester. I've been using the beta since. Perhaps this is causing some of my issues..?
