I have my 720 in for repair/replace under warranty. The guys were very supportive. To help them diagnose the problem, I ran a test on the 12V supply in my plane... 12.7 volts on the power plug... engine off. I also parked the plane in yesterday's 93 degree heat here in MA and let it sit with the 720 mounted on the RAM mount just in front of the top edge of the panel.

After 45 minutes, using one of those laser temp guns, the screen was about 128 degrees and the back case cover was 113 degrees. I plugged it into the 12V adapter and everything worked normally. I have an older AnywhereMap ATC that came with the plane that I can use as a backup. So I shipped the 720 back to AP on an RMA to see what's going on.

I wonder whether the RAM tablet mount I am using is blocking some vent holes in the 720 case and the heat is from the components themselves getting heat soaked on the first leg of the flight... rather outside heating from the sun. The 720 was NOT powered on during the 45 minute "out in the Sun" test

I've had the 720 since March 4th and flown about 30 hours with it. I has worked flawlessly during that time. The only thing differrent about the day it failed was that it was probably the hottest day I have ever flown with it.

I'm not sure if my experience today is related or not. I flew three short legs of a poker run - about 25 minutes total for each leg. The Ifly720 worked flawlessly on the first leg. It is mounted to the glare shield in an RV9A and it sat on the ramp for about 45 minutes before starting the next leg. The canopy was open the whole time and there was a breeze, the temperature was about 90. When I plugged the iFly in to start the second leg of the trip, all I got was a blank screen. Repeated attempts to get it to start failed. At the next stop, I put the iFly in its soft case and put it in my pocket. An hour or so later when we departed, I remounted the unit and it worked fine.

Reliabiltiy is really important to me and I'd like to know what the issue here is. It doesn't seem to be heat related but maybe it is. The unit didn't feel hot by any means and it wasn't subjected to anything I thought should have stressed it thermally.

I have a similar problem with my 720. First leg of a 3 leg flight on Saturday was fine. On the second leg the screen went blank. Unplugged and replugged and the screen hung on the brightness screen. Unplugged again and left it off for several minutes using an old Garmin for back up. Reconnected about 5 miles from second stop and everything came up fine. It continued to work to my destination. Could this be a bug in the latest release?

are you using the battery pack or 12v direct from the cig lighter? I had a similar problem when using the battery pack. I discovered that the cable between the battery pack and the 720 was faulty. I replaced the cable and the problem went away

That is exactly what has been happening to me since receiving a new 720 on May 9, 2013. Two times in 6 weeks the unit has failed to boot or load after a flawless 1st leg of flight and then shut unit off at parking ramp. Had to revert to old GPS to get home. Didn't matter whether trying to plug into battery or 120V adapter, it wouldn't boot - blank screen. About 2-4 hours later the unit worked fine and I couldn't reproduce the problem. The 720 was not hot and is out of the sun so overheating doesn't seem likely. Tried running the unit for 12 hours straight in SIM mode and shutting off for 30 minutes and restarting - worked fine every time. Seems "Murphy" is involved and only when I fly. Pursuing replacement under warranty before heading to Oshkosh. Customer service is great! I will be standing outside the Adventure Booth telling folks just how nice the 720 works (as good or better then many panel mounts at $10K). The team at Adventure Pilot is awsome!
