Hopefully, MOST of us flying below 18,000 feet will be broadcasting on 978. Also, I would hope that most will purchase dual band ADS-B in. I don't think it is a given that rebroadcasting more aircraft positions via the ground stations will increase latency. I believe that most of the traffic we see will be via air-to-air anyway. Bottom line, the system will improve, not degrade.

I have presented my latency issues with the ADS-B department of the FAA and they are interested and have asked me for more details.

Of course. air to air on UAT will be almost instant whereas 1090 broadcasts from airliners will suffer extreme latency as their signals have to be rebroadcast.

Still, I am glad I invested in the ADS-B in/out system. Now I just have to figure out what is causing an intermittent disconnect between Navworx and IFLY.

One person has said he has no dropout when using the IFLY dedcated system, but when using his Samsung tablet he gets the "no Heartbeat" message as I do using either a Samsung phone or tablet.

You need dual band 978/1090 for your ADS-B in.

Not necessarily just airliners. The first commonly-available ADSB-out transponders for GA aircraft were all based on the Trig TT31, which supports 1090ES. So there are and will continue to be a reasonable fraction of GA aircraft using 1090 for ADSB-out. (My Cherokee is one of them.)
