All,

For clarity, we do plan to support "cloud" style sharing of data across devices on a common subscription. And more. Our "WiFi Sharing" is solving a different need: It not only does a one time sync of the plan, but all subsequent changes to a flight plan can automatically be shared. An internet based solution could no do this in the air. But this is just the first step in our WiFi sharing plans. I'll leave the rest to your imagination for now, but you can expect some really clever things down the road ;-).

Thanks,
Walter

Cobra, I see that Walter already replied about supporting cloud style sharing. This is exactly the technology that is used by most apps independent of their network as long as they can get to the cloud server. In my case, I use a phone and a tablet, both having cellular and WiFi connectivity. The cloud server does not care if I'm using my cell data or WiFi to pass along sync information as long as I can get to the server. This happens on the ground when I've done my flight plan, aircraft profile, and so on from my phone. When I get in the aircraft where my table is used, everything is there and ready to go. Once I'm in the air, I'm not using the phone anymore. But, the user can have both if needed with Walter's plan of using WiFi between devices in the air. From Walter's reply it sounds like he is already on the path to both of these solutions. Therefore, I'm sure to be one of the delighted customers!

We all understand the technology, but probably don't see it as a big deal. My IPad Mini 3 has cellular, but I rarely turn it on. Most tablets probably don't have cellular because users don't see the need to pay for the connectivity when they can connect via WIFI or their phone's hotspot. Just the ability to sync multiple devices via WIFI "delights" most of us.

There are also security issues with using "cloud" storage and connectivity. I prefer to keep my information on my local devices and not on the internet.

+1 to what Old Pilot said - my tablet does not have a cellular connection, and neither does the iFly 720. WiFi is the answer that I need. I also don't want to rely on the cloud - just let me plan with my tablet or phone, then have all three devices synch up when powered on in the plane. That would be VERY cool, especially when they do it when the course is changed on one device in the air, and propogates to the rest!

And you can do that now (with the Beta version) if you are using a WIFI ADS-B device (not sure about blue tooth ADS-B device). If not, you could have your IFly 720 and tablet connected to your phone's hotspot and do it now.
