As to the issue at hand, I honestly cannot see the value of the screen getting rotated every time the tablet decides it's past the 45 degree mark.

Some of us have the tablet mounted on a fixed point on the plane. In most cases such feature would not bother these people, but when it would, it would be a pain.

Some of us have the tablet mounted on the yoke (me included). That would suck.

Some of us just have the tablet in our lap (that's what I do when I'm lazy). The tablet is horizontal - a tiny little movement will cause it to change orientation. That wouldn't work either.

I believe that there should be a "change orientation" settings someplace (maybe the same place where you have the night/day settings). By default it should be the same orientation as the tablet, but locked from that point onward (until the app is closed and re-started or orientation manually changed).

A question/potential issue: I flew yesterday, in landscape mode, I viewed an approach plate (in landscape), low and behold - two minutes later it was displayed in portrait mode. I'm not sure what changed during these two minutes, but I have not restarted the app.

Thank, Shane. I've never heard of gyrometers. I've just Google them. Very interesting. - I wonder how long it will take the FAA to approve them! - Jim Williams

Jim: That's basically how all glass cockpits work.

Personally, I would prefer my tablet be free to rotate with a button in the IFly GPS app to "lock" the screen if so desired. I use a competitor app and it's NEVER a problem.

That may have definitely happened - I found out my headset cord even presses buttons on my Samsung Note 10.1.
