Kudos

Just a quick shout out to the iFly team. I've been a user for several years. I've eagerly awaited each update, and have thoroughly enjoyed each one. My normal flying mission is usually about an hour or less in my RV-4. I can get quite a ways in that time. Earlier this month, I made the first really long cross country flight immediately after a TOH (installed new Lycon goodies and an SDS CPI-2). I was invited to attend Reno PRS and qualify for the NCAR this September. I was keeping a close eye on the engine the entire time and was very happy when I returned to East Texas with not a single engine squawk. I was equally happy with my iFly GPS apps on both my Android phone and iPad mini 4. This was my first true test of it's long leg planning abilities directly regarding fuel usage per leg. I had the plane parameters set fairly close to begin with. After the first two legs with the new ignition (better efficiency), I had to slightly tweak the fuel burn data. After that, every single fill up the rest of the trip there and back was within .2 gallons used from what iFly estimated. I was able to start extending my fuel stop legs to the point where my "best calculation" and iFly were within the 30 minute VFR reserve limit every single time. After this trip, for me the iFly app has added significantly to my peace of mind in the cockpit regarding fuel burn. I have greatly reinforced my rule of "no long flights without iFly in the cockpit". I started out flying way back in the day without all this "new fandagled" stuff...this "magenta line" crap. When it first started coming out, I was part of the crowd that resisted quite a bit. Upon trying out a several different ones, and ultimately settling on iFly, I cannot imagine flying long legs without it. It takes all the grunt work out of the equation. I can put in my points, make sure weather is downloaded, and in literally less than 3 minutes, be extremely confident that I will get the exact time and performance that iFly says I will get. Great job to the team. I am a user for life. Speaking of which...when is the "lifetime user" option button going to appear :)

On a side note...I passed the first hurdle of PRS, which is Formation Warm Up (they decide if I'm safe enough to allow me to join). Upon completion of PRS training, I was happily accepted into the group of "Certified Reno Sport Class Race Pilot". A dream come true for me.
