Hey all,

I have a 740b paired with a Stratux bought from Adventure Pilot and a Garmin GDL-82 for ADS-B Out.  I generally don't have any problems with picking up ADS-B traffic targets, BUT...

When I'm traveling with other aircraft, often they either never show up or they show up for a while and then disapper, even if I don't "aknowledge" the alert.  Most recently, I went on a cross country trip with another airplane, most of the time spent a quarter to a half mile apart.  During the total of four hours of flight time, I saw my buddy as a target about fifteen minutes total; my buddy (also using a GDL-82) saw me the entire time.  I even rebooted the 740b in flight, and when it came back up it saw my friend's airplane for a few minutes, then the target vanished again.

This same problem has happened a LOT to me when traveling with others, even with my alert settings set to maxmimum range/altitude for traffic targets.  ADS-B status is showing "receiving" while this is going on.

SO...does the 740b "filter" or otherwise remove targets of they are too close and traveling in the same direction, or something similar?  If so, can I disable this?  If not, WTF is going on with this?

Thanks.

Hey, there is a chance that you have "Filter Ghost Traffic" Turned on, you can turn it off by going to Menu --> Setup --> Alerts and Warnings --> Traffic Alerts, then turning off ghost traffic filter.  In the Stratux you can actually just set it to only filter you out if that becomes an issue, by entering your HEX code into the 192.168.10.1 web interface, then you can keep the iFly filter off, so the traffic that it thinks is a ghost will still show up, but the Stratux will keep you from showing up.

Thanks for the tip.  I have not tried the hex code, but I did try disabling the "filter ghost traffic" and got the same results.  I'll try in combination with the hex code and see if that helps.  I would not think the ghost filter would filter other airplanes, since they have different identifying info (xpdr hex code, tail, etc) from my airplane..  If well-designed it should only filter returns with my own xpdr hex code and/or tail number.  It should be able to figure out what those are because it will see them constantly.

I believe (I am not positive as I am not a developer) that the ghost traffic filters traffic that is close to the GPS location, as it believes there is a chance that the traffic is your own ship, so when other traffic is close for a resonable amount of time the traffic will filter out (So if it is similar location, speed, direction it will think that it is ownship and filter it), so by turning off the filter, and using your hex code in the stratux interface, it should only filter you out, because it is only looking to filter the one hex code, and not based off of location or motion.
