A portable device cannot drive an autopilot on a certified aircraft.

Maybe he has a Garmin 430 for that??

He specifically mentioned the 740b.

No, I mentioned the 740b. Why are we arguing about this. I'm trying to help this guy. I suggested how I would do it and mentioned the 740b and said it could also drive his autopilot. You said you can't do that in a certified aircraft. OK.

I was replying to his comment about connecting a 740b to his Brittain A/P:

The 740b is certainly an idea I had not considered.  My antique Mooney does have the Brittain a/p coupled to the VHF Nav 1 receiver (switchable to the Loran) which I'm guessing is an analog signal.  Is that possible with the 740b?

Arguing?  lol I'm answering his specific question by letting him know that the 740b can't legally drive an autopilot in his Mooney. I'd hate to know that he followed someone's flawed suggestion just to find out later that it wouldn't pass a ramp check.

This is what I called arguing.

Since I'm too poor to have a GPS navigator, I'll need to do VOR, LOC, ILS approaches with the needles, but I think iFly will give me a wealth of situatonal awareness I never had before, to help me keep those needles centered for a change.

For most of us, I think one tablet in the airplane is enough. Two tablets would be more than enough. Three tablets would be too much. Definitely, no need for four tablets.

For sure, I may be trying to bite off more than I can chew, since I haven't had a chance to try any of this.

By the time I remove the Loran and the ADF I'll have room for two 7" tablets without covering anything else. I think #3 & #4 will ride in the seat-back pocket behind the FO (better half), to await the inevitable "Low Batt."  I just hope to have #3 & #4 all preloaded so they can go to work as soon as I wake them up.

P.S.:  Is that Beta Team thing available to just anybody?

Anyone who is a current subscriber of more than 3 months can request access to the Beta Team via https://www.iflygps.com/Beta. That page starts with a letter from Walter explaining what we're looking for from our testers. We then review all the applications periodically, make determinations, and notify the new testers via email.

Jeff, Tim: Arguing about arguing is still arguing, move on.
