As Cobra mentioned, you can plan the route on your Windows computer at home, and using your home network you can then share the route to any or all of your devices before you leave the house.  If one of the desired devices is left in the plane, the route can be shared to it once you get to the airport using a wifi connection, cellular hotspot, or ADS-B device such as Stratux.  No need to use a 3rd party app and then manually transfer to iFly, unless you have an app that you just really prefer for preflight planning.  I usually plan the flight on one device and then share the route with the other once I'm in the plane and everything is connected to the Stratux.  When iFly (hopefully soon) gets their Avidyne interface released, I'll be able to push the plan (and any en-route changes) into the panel mounted IFD440, too.

Hi Jeff,

Actually it's a combination of 2 wants (not needs). One is the ability to do planning with a PC/keyboard/mouse, and the other is to have the full compliment of mobile iFly apps running (or at least runnable) in the aircraft.  But the laptop PC is really too big to be usefull in the air, even as a backup. So the idea of a freeware (Avare) would let me what-if all sorts of scenarios, until I settle on one which I would tap into one of the mobiles and then share from that one. See also my response to Tim below.

For most of us, I think one tablet in the airplane is enough. Two tablets would be more than enough. Three tablets would be too much. Definitely, no need for four tablets.

I would recommend trying to figure a strategy where you need only a total of 4 devices. I have iFly GPS loaded on: Surface Pro 4 (Windows 10).
You gave me something to think about.  I thought about getting a smaller version of a MS Surface, but they don't come in small size I guess. But one of my devices is a Samsung Tab E which I am learning about using to approximate the PC where I could do the flight planning with keyboard and mouse.  Then take it ito the airport, put it on a kneeboard, and share it to the other 3.

For sure, I may be trying to bite off more than I can chew, since I haven't had a chance to try any of this.

By the time I remove the Loran and the ADF I'll have room for two 7" tablets without covering anything else. I think #3 & #4 will ride in the seat-back pocket behind the FO (better half), to await the inevitable "Low Batt."  I just hope to have #3 & #4 all preloaded so they can go to work as soon as I wake them up.

P.S.:  Is that Beta Team thing available to just anybody?

If that was my Mooney, I would do one panel mounted iFly 740b plus one 7 inch Android or IOS tablet. The iFly 740b would be hardwired for power as well as to drive the autopilot. The tablet would be mounted on a RAM mount and plugged into the airplanes 12v source. I would have a second table as backup, always with current charts and a fully charged battery, in my flight bag.
