Read this recently at

https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/a...

"In a nod to AOPA pilots on the move, the association made it easier to integrate flight plans into digital devices prevalent in today’s cockpits.

The latest release of the AOPA GO mobile app allows downloaded flight plans to be sent directly to one of the three supported iOS electronic flight bag apps: ForeFlight, Seattle Avionics FlyQ EFB, and WingX Pro7. 'Routes created using the online flight planner can be downloaded to AOPA GO, and then the route can be sent to the EFB app as long as the EFB is installed on the same device as AOPA GO,' Rush said. 'The great thing is that it also works offline, as long as users have already downloaded the route.' "

Sounds a bit convoluted ..and iFly prominently missing from supported list.

Didn't we have talk here in wish list about iFly producing a full bore web based flight planner that would have ability to import from and export to iFly GPS dedicated and iPad ?

Where's that in the development plans? Or is that dead?

Shane?

I myself use AOPA's planner but would gladly switch for import expert ability .

On the other hand, why reinvent the wheel? Maybe a better strategy would be for Adventure Pilot and/or us iFly users to lobby AOPA to implement export to us? Would be value added on both ends.

If you reading this would visit https://www.aopa.org/flightplanner/in...

....you can then suggest they support export to iFly as follows....."AOPA members also can submit ideas for new features and vote for suggestions submitted by other users to help make future versions of AOPA Flight Planner even better. Clicking on the Feedback button in the top menu bar of the flight planner opens the interactive conversation."

.....I believe it may even be possible to access their planner without logging in as an AOPA member...as a free trial...but not sure.

Alex,

This is very much still in the development plans. We actually have layered in importing KML and GPX flight plans for iFly devices and Android devices, however it is a manual first step. Brian and Walter are working a ways to receive those files into either a cloud solution to be pulled down into the iFly GPS devices or App. Additionally, we are working with these solutions such as AOPA, Dynon, etc to support the importing of those files directly to the App or software.

We've actually begun working on this, however it's a pretty complex integration so please be patient as it will likely have to be rolled out in steps... Manual Process, Cloud Based, Direct WiFi Import, etc.

There is not a current completion date on this one as we see it evolving into a bit of a Social Feature as well. Think Share Flight Plans, Comments, Pictures, Events, etc...

Sounds exciting! I hope you're including Avidyne in that list of integration partners. Their wifi / Bluetooth in the cockpit and two-way integration between their panel-mounted IFD GPS units and portable devices is an exciting advance in cockpit avionics integration (to me, at least!).

Yes, Avidyne is on the list too.. We are just starting with Dynon. They have recently garnered a lot of traction with the approval of installing their Non-Certified D10 and more models in Certified Aircraft. We'll be working to add more following Dynon. Stay tuned..

Thanks Shane.

Coming from one corner of tge IT world (even way back to punchcard days 😉) I really think I have a profound appreciation of how complex it is. I'm surprised it works at all.

Automatic , transparent , and labor free full integration and sync is great. But don't forget that as a practical matter on our dedicated iFlys (700 series) in many cases we find ourselves leaving from a hangar or ramp with no WiFi connectivity.

So I would be perfectly happy to be able to design a complex flight plan on the AOPA planner, or better yet your own web or PC based full bore planner, manually extract it from my Windows PC, import it into my iFly SD card ...which I always bring one ofhome...or put it in aUSB stick znd import it into the 720 at the hangar.
