As I am currently working on my instrument rating, I did my first instrument approach, which was the VOR 6 into Jackson, KJXN.
The approach required me to fly inbound on radial 242, heading 062°. I was quite surprised to see that by the time I was on the radial, iFly showed that I would actually be quite a bit south of it.

I am using iFly for Android.

Back home, I put in iFly a course from the VOR over the radial 242 in the VOR RWY 6 plate. Interestingly, iFly showed in 'Flight Plan' that the magnetic course would be 253°, instead of the radial's 242°. As radials are also magnetic, I would have expected them to match. I tried the same thing with a VOR approach into another airport, the numbers of the course and the radial did also not match.

Am I on the wrong track? Do I have an error in my reasoning? If not – is this a bug or a feature of iFly?

Thank you for your response but that's not it. The second screenshot also shows that I have set iFly to magnetic north.

I just tried the Immokalee VOR Rwy18 approach, close to your home base - same issue, in this case the difference between the radial on the plate the the magnetic course calculated by iFly is 7°.

I also plotted courses over a number of compass roses of VORs on the sectional. In all cases the calculated magnetic course were reasonably correct.

It tend to believe that the the drawings on the approach plates are simply off by a few degrees. As I find this quite irritating, I would however still like to hear what the iFly guys think about this.
