As far as I can tell iFly in locating "the airport" seems to be locating some particular point on the airport grounds. It appears to me when I'm taxiing that perhaps iFly is centering on the FBO? Can you correct, confirm, or educate me on that? If so, with WAAS or no WAAS if I was trying to use it guide me down on the numbers with, say, only 100 foot visibility it could be leading me down on top of the FBO..

Another "con" argument might be "aren't there areas where there is no WAAS coverage?"

Alex

Alex, good point. We use the FAA provided airport lat/lon, which is typically the center of the airport if you we're to draw a bounding rectangle around the airport grounds. So you are correct, this is another reason that enabling WAAS in and of itself wouldn't make the iFly an ideal tool for shooting a 0 visability approach.

But I've drawn some conclusions from this thread: Many perceive a benefit, and the downsides are minor. I'm leaning towards adding WAAS. It's too late for 7.5, but we'll get this on the list for our next feature release.

Cheers,

Walter

Thanks Walter. Just trying to think of another company that would respond to a request from customers for a feature not included in the original purchase...hmmmmmm.....no one comes to mind.

It seems a moot point now, but another reason for WAAS is if/when we (the FAA) get taxiway maps for some/all airports, the greater precision could make the difference between turning on the correct taxiway/runway, or the wrong one.
