Hello, im looking at replacing my bendix/king skymap 3c with possible the ifly 720 and skyradar but im trying to figure out which way to go?

Im not a big Garmin fan so lets get that out of the way. I like the bigger screens like the ifly and i understand airgizmos is coming out with a recessed type mount (which i would not consider the ifly without that)

All this being said i like the idea of free weather but is the one you pay for (xm weather) quicker as in updating than ads-b?

15 minutes seems like a lot could change?

Any help you could provide would certainly be appreciated.

I understand that ADSB weather is as good or better than XM in terms of data frequency. A new image is received every 5 minutes, depending on when the image was compiled I think the total lag should be 5 to 10 minutes. But even if it were 15 minutes lag, the idea is to give the pilot a feel for the size and direction of a storm front, you will want to give the entire thing a very wide berth - IMO.

Thanks,
Walter

Having flown both, the update frequency is about the same. I think the ADSB loads quicker (at least in Tucson where I can receive the signal on the ground). The ability to animate the nexrad on the iFly with ADSB gives you a way to figure out cell movement that is not possible with XM.
