ADS-B

Ok , so its thunderstorm season here in Georgia and Florida.

I own the I-720 and am pleased with it but now I need weather graphics esp Nexrad. I would like owners to give me a true and honest opinion on their experiences with ADS-B receivers eg by skyrad

Should I wait for other systems eg the new one for ipad? I just dont want 3 GPSs in my plane. I have a Garmin 430W plus our ifly 720How difficult was the hook up, software compatability etc.

I do have the new Beta 7 version and not sure if it has solved previously mentioned problems eg winds aloft etc

Thanks in advance-if the feedback is good I will plunk down the approx $1000 for a new unit

I just returned from our Wed hamburger @ DED and on the way back I was picking up a good amount of weather just South of our course to 97FL. The visibilty was excellant and we could see the rain showers that were showing on the Ifly 720. Was working very good from the Skyradar and also showed up good on my Iphone

I have also have had very good experience with the SkyRadar unit, but I am using it with an iPad running WinX Pro 7. I have the iFly 700 and had to make the choice between NMEA out or SkyRadar in. With your '720 this should not be a problem. (I'm still hoping the TTL input option pans out for my '700 to allow both)

One plus for the SkyRadar as opposed to the APPAREO Stratus is that the SkyRadar unit has a remote GPS receiver, which when combined with an optional external ADS-B antenna, allows one to hide the unit. (My unit lives in the glove box) The APPAREO Stratus GPS receiver is built into the main receiver, with no remote input, as I remember from the Sporty Pilot Shop booth Sun 'n Fun, so it must have a view of the sky.

If all you're using the SkyRadar for is a receiver for weather radar data, then you don't need the GPS antenna at all. The iFly knows where it is already via its own GPS.

My SkyRadar GPS antenna lives in the cardboard box it came in, in the closet at home.

How difficult was the actual hookup/configuration for the ifly to communicate with the skyradar

Thanks
