Is the 740 compatible with the gtr200 for the gps information output on the 232 line to the point Garmin will recognize and display close airport names with the frequencies?

Yes, but.....  If you are using the 740 for anything else, like AP, you need to check that the baud rates are compatable.  I am using it to drive AP at 4800, while the GTR wants 9600.
