So with ALL OF THAT being said, basically it's interpreting where it thinks the freezing line is. That's a ton of data/processing power and not something that TISB weather streaming was intended for. You won't see freezing line layering for a long time, and IMO if it's raining at the surface then it's IFR and if there's a threat of snow then you'll run into icing issues, which is a fat no from me.

Hope this helps!

thanks for the WX geek details :) . I don't mean to oversimplify things. but  the picture i posted from iFLY shows clear of rain or any other precip in the areas where there was snow and sleet coming down at a good rate.    The internal iFLY weather brain decided that those were the areas without any precipitation which I thoought was not correct.

I was not planning on dodging sleet and snow in a C172, so it's just a casual observation :)

Right, so looking at the lower screenshot you posted, it appears that it also has a satellite overlay, as the empty space between the two precip bands is apparent but has a much-closer-to-white-shading in it.

But if they're both from the ADSB broadcast, shouldn't they both show the same weather? That is, it seems he shouldn't  have had snow depicted on one, and clear VMC on the other.

With the current storm on the east coast there are areas of rain/sleet/snow again.   iFLY paints only rain and seems to  ignore the other precip. showing as clear weather.

the layer in the other efb is Nexrad only (no satellite).       Note: this was from the internet nexrad, I'm not sure if ADSB sourced nexrad will be treated differently
