This seemed to be a one-off outage on FAA TFR feeds, but everything on our end is fully operational.

Heh. One-off, or not, they'll still bust yer butt if you bust a TFR that isn't listed on their websites.

in the air the TFR would come via  FIS-B and you'd get an alert hopefully

It's that "hopefully" part that gives me the willies. About 8 or 10 years ago I was relying on Garmin Pilot when passing Philadelphia beneath their Class B airspace. Garmin said no problems all that day. I was half an hour past the area when a presidential TFR suddenly popped up behind me, with no advance notice at all. The FAA hadn't sent out the data. Later I found out that several other guys got busted for flying through it. So now when I'm going to be flying anywhere near a big city I phone 1-800-wx-brief and ask if there are any TFRs near my route. I often don't even ask about the weather, just get the Q & A and my N-number on the record.

It is important to keep in mind that there is not one single part of *any* EFB that can be taken as an authoritatve data source.

All EFBs are helpful but uncertified tools that gather data from various sources and present those data to users in a convenient way.  Errors in those data can be introduced at several points along the process, either by the FAA, by the EFB vendor, by user error, by device malfunctions, or by other means.  Any person using an EFB does so without any certainty that the data being presented is 100% accurate.

No amount of wishing, complaing, or hoping will ever change this simple fact of life.

That is not to say that bugs should not be pointed out and fixed.  The point is simply that there is no time in the future where you will be able to "declare victory" and say, "Okay, *now* everything's perfect and I can rely solely on my EFB for everything I need."
