Don't know if this is seen an all units, but I have noticed that when initially installing IFLY on my Android devices and downloading the 1st map info, it will not allow you to download a low res map. However, after the 1st map is installed, then it will allow downloading a low-resolution map.

I should also mention that I have found that the low-resolution maps appear to be just as sharp as the high res maps for 40% less memory usage and quicker downloads. Have any of you found the same thing?

John,

Have not tried this yet, but will since you mentioned it...

Personally, I do not load all 50 states...unrealistic for me.  I load only those around me in the 500 mile range as that is 95% of my flying.

Thanks for the tip.

Mike:

What I mentioned is no biggie, but I was just wondering why it was that way and if others had seen this. The low res maps look just a clear as the high res maps but save storage space.

I load California, Nevada, and Arizona. The in summer when I head north to Idaho back-country I load Oregon and Idaho.

I'm sure they look about the same when zoomed out.  Do they look as clear when you zoom in?  I've never bothered to compare...it just works for me, and I've never had concerns with storage space or update times.
