When I get an alert from the 740b I like the audio alerts, but it also pops up a box that makes me acknowledge or inhibit the alert. The problem is that the box covers the display, so I can't see the alerted issue on the map! I spend precious seconds futzing with the screen to make the box go away so I can see the map again. This is especially a problem with traffic. I'd like to be able to glance at the map to see the traffic or obstacle's relative position while scanning visually for them.
Is there a way to turn off this annoying pop-up box? If not I may have to turn off the alerts and just rely on looking more often at the screen for the traffic and obstacles nearby. That would be a shame. Can't there just be a text scroll at the top or bottom of the screen about the alert, that doesn't block the map and automatically disappears when the threat passes? Or at least have an option for audio alerts only, or to just pop up the box for one second and then have it go away. I think it's a terrible interface decision to make the alerting cover the display that shows the threats, and require pilot intervention to make it go away while you are trying to locate and deal with the threat. It just blows stress and pilot workload through the roof.
