I've had good luck using a 3 amp switching battery eliminator circuit (from the R/C world) for the last 18 months.  It's located in the case right next to my old long power hungry receivers and I've had no interference problems as it's low RFI / shielded.  An example that's probably higher quality than the one I use:

I like the idea of these compact battery eliminators!  However, they do not have a micro USB connector - how did you connect it to the Raspberry Pi?

John

I connected the 5 V output of the BEC to the GPIO pins on the Raspberry Pi.  Postive to pins 2 & 4, negative to pins 6 & 9.  I'm still using the same BEC with no problems to date.  You will probably be fine just using one pin each for the positive and negative, I just chose to paralled two pins each.  If you have an AHRS board, you will have to solder the connections to the same pins on back side of the AHRS board.

I have an app on my iPhone to shut down my RPi.

David, could/would you expand a bit your use of the bec for your stratux?  We were bitten by the remove pwr now SD corruption on our last flight - and as we're getting comfortable having the ADSB input I'd like to not go through that again.

Does your setup shut down the stratux automatically using a script?

No shutdown script, the BEC is just serves as my 5V power source.  FWIW, I've been running my Stratux for over two years without a SD corruption issue.  I guess I'm just lucky?

The BEC is inside the Stratux case which has the same 12V female connector as my old SkyRadar receiver.  I set it up that way so it would be a plug 'n play replacement in case of problems, but I've never had a Stratux problem that a reboot wouldn't correct.

David - we got about 5 months of steady stratux use before the SD card issue arose.  Once it did I couldn't reboot or restart the stratux, hence my search for a better shutdown sequence.  I'm experimenting with using a amazon dash button to shutdown the statux but it's definitely a work in progress.
