If you're going to use logging, be sure to expand the partition size on the SD card else it runs out of room fast. When I accidently left logging on and it filled the card, the only indication was that UAT dropped out occasionally and a reboot was required to get it back. By then it was just a rinse, repeat loop. Regardless of what size card you use, the flashed image stays the same size on the disk (2+G?) and does not use the rest of the disk until you manually expand the partition size.

Another power related issue with the Generation 1 XM receiver was it would not operate correctly if it was on when you started the engine. I put a switched ligher socket on mine to allow me to turn it off before starting, then turning it on after starting the engine.

Good point, I'll just for voltage on the ground. I'm not sure how that socket is grounded.

Today the log file is showing the last flight but so far, I'm not sure what it's telling me. Also looks like the system purged the previous data on its own.
I plan to some power tests today on the bench.

My Pi's magic board voltage is about 4.8, which is about where my cheapo cigarette adapter was stuck with a GPS and SDR attached. I'll poke around GitHub, etc., so see what's working for others.

Yes, the power cord is losing between .3 and .5 volts. The Pi isn't very tolerant of the line fluctuations it's creating during boot. I'm thinking of using a step down supply (buck converter) capable of a couple of amps, voltage set to about 5.2, and then hardwire it to the Pi. Sound like what anybody else is doing? Heard of RFI interference by the converter? I assume this tactic is what's available in good car chargers, just can't find any specs on any of them.
