I currently have a Garmin 496 connected to a Dynon D-180 with autopilot. The autopilot will follow an active flight plan in the 496. If I replace the 496 with the iFly 740, will the D-180 autopilot follow a flight plan in the iFly 740?

Hi Joe,

Yes, the iFly 740 will drive your Dynon Autopilot as well. there may be a few steps to set up once connected to make sure the Baud Rate and NMEA sentences match what the D180 need. You'll need our USB-Serial Cable on our Store Page, Click Here

Once you have the wiring setup, then simply launch iFly GPS on your 740 and touch Setup, NMEA Output, and select Basic and if that does not begin working, us the Custom option and set the Baud Rate and the specific NMEA sentences required by your D180. Traditionally, I believe the Baud Rate on the D180 is 9600 unless it has been changed. You'll also need the GPRMC, GPRMB and GPGGA NMEA sentences. You may also need the GPBOD or GPAPB, but those are less common.

I hope this helps and have a great week.

tip: you can test the AP by building a flight plan from your location and then beginning a Simulation flight... Menu, About, Begin Simulation. This is "dupe' the GPS signal and begin sending all selected sentences to the D180. Once it is all working, you can stop the simulation by turning the unit off or touching Menu, About, Stop Simulation.
