I hope that this isn’t a too silly question, but I couldn’t find an elegant way to add STARs / SIDs to the flight plan, other than to write the fixes down and to manually add them to the flight plan.

Is there a better way to do this?

I am using an iPad Mini 4, but believe that my question is not device specific.

Right now, that's the only way to do it, but I believe that feature request is on the roadmap for a future software release.

Correct, it is on the Wish-List to auto add these procedures to the plan. It's actually pretty high on the priority list so stay tuned.
