I'm running the latest update. I'll try another cable. By the way, how do you install a newer version of the software? Do you write the image on top of what's already there or do you have to reformat the micro SD card. If you reformat, do you need to install anything before writing the new software? thanks.

Hi all. I also just received the hardware to put this together. I think it's a pretty cool ap for the Pi. I own and operate a machine shop and am planning to machine a case out some type of plastic (Delrin or polyurethane. ). I'll post a note and a pic when it's finished. Also maybe make them available if there's a demand.

I've had success by deleting the existing img files off of the SD card (on my windows pc) then updating or writing the new image to the same card without having to reformat the SD card. I keep the older img file on my pc in case the newly updated image doesn't work well, but so far I haven't had any issues at all.

Awesome - put me down for one. There are several good ideas for cases on the Stratux reddit forum. I'm hoping to find a case that will hold a 12v to 5 volt power adapter, two radio dongles, an AHRS chip and also have a mounting or space for a cooling fan.

(imagine asking for this a year ago???)

Can you build you case design using public domain files for a 3-D printer? Seems like it might save some design from scratch time.

As you design your [our? ;) ] case, keep heat in mind. The Pi puts out a lot, plus the SDR's get warm too. Package them closely together and/or add the AHRS chip and it'll need good ventilation. Put it on the dash and it may need a fan. I'd like to add a buck converter so I can power it directly from a 12 or 24 volt plug, but that'll add more space requirements and wiring. With additional code and wiring, the fan can be controlled by the Pi itself. Now let's add a small rechargable internal battery that powers the Pi long enough for logic to automatically issue a shutdown command when the main power is cut (to avoid accidental file corruption). All this is possible, practical, and pretty much necessary to make the Stratux a true plug in/unplug device like the high dollar commercial products.

As a poor man's ADS-B, the developers truly deserve an award. I've built and flown with two - a dual receiver with GPS/AHRS chip, and a barebones single receiver. They both work as well as my SkyRadar DX.

If you want to SSH into the Pi from an Android, JuiceSSH is a good free app. RasPi Check is a free app that tells you how the PI is performing (temp, speed, memory usage, etc.) and also gives you a quick way to send a shutdown or reboot command to the Pi.
