Just got off the phone with the FAA Central representative. He informed me that my SkyguardTWX transceiver is noncompliant and MUST be turned off. Failure to comply would result in a visit from my local FSDO.

I had a lengthy discussion with the gentleman (obviously). His position is that the portable transceivers are noncompliant and should not be used, or even sold. Of course I used the discussion points so often discussed on this, and other, forums. He is making the call to all of the 400 or so on his list. He did indicate that some of the installed compliant units are failing, mostly due to install or setup errors.

So, when I fly tomorrow, I will be without the safety enhancements of traffic and weather that I have enjoyed!

Looks like another AMU +, down the money drain.

Just turn off the ADS-B out and/or remove the antenna. You'll still have ADS-B in and weather.

Ron:

First let me assure you that whomever from the FAA that is calling our customers and telling them they must turn off their SkyGuardTWX Transceivers is incorrect. What this person should be telling our customers is that the SkyGuardTWX Transceivers are not yet TSO-C154c CERTIFIED to the January 1,2020 mandate and for them to work with their equipment supplier to achieve TSO-C154c certification of these units prior to the 2020 mandate. I can tell you this because I have just spoken with the ADS-B equipment implementation Manager at the FAA in Washington and he is going to locate this individual making these calls and direct him on the correct policy and statements to our customers. Of course our units are not TSO-C154c certified yet, and we state that on our WEB site. We have been working diligently with the FAA for almost 2 years to complete all the requirements of the TSO and we still expect to achieve TSO-C154c certification. As we have been directed by the FAA, up and until we achieve the TSO, we are required to set 2 parameters in the ADS-B Transmission Broadcast that alerts ATC that are units are NOT TSO'd and should NOT be used for aircraft separation in controlled airspace. The FAA Management in Washington is well aware of our units and how they are configured. Not once has any of this Management told me that we could not sell or use our products in flight. In fact, they have been supportive in helping us deliver the requirements to meet TSO-C154c certification. Now, as far as your specific unit, we do not have any record of you purchasing a unit from either SkyGuardTWX or Adventure Pilot? Can you tell me the serial number of your Transceiver? Also, if you have the FAA 2020 Compliance report for a recent flight that you have made with your Transceiver ON and broadcasting, please email it to Don@SkyGuardTWX.com and I will review it to make sure all the parameters are set correctly as per what the FAA Management Team has told us to do.

Thanks

Don ---- I will get the information you requested ---- looking forward to being able to using my unit. If necessary, I would be happy to get it back to you for whatever updates are needed. I inherited my unit from one of the RV crowd that was getting your new unit, with the TXP feature.
