External Antenna

I installed my 720 GPS in the new panel of my PA28 180 with a panel dock by Airgizmos. Install looks great as shown in the pic I posted in the IFly Pictures and Feedback section a couple weeks ago. I used the attach wire from a IFly700/720 external antenna to attach through an aviation cannon plug to the airplane's external antenna from the removed Garmin GNC 250XL the 720 gives me a no GPS signal message most of the time. I believe when it does pick up a signal it is from the internal antenna. Wiring has been checked, all is fine. Does the 720 require a unique antenna signal? Hopefully I can use the mounted (approved) antenna already in place. but now I'm not sure. Any advice?

When an external antenna is plugged into the iFly, it shunts the internal antenna, so it must be working a little bit. However based on your description, I'm guessing the antenna is not compatible. It's an active / powered antenna, the one we provide is tuned to work specifically with the iFly chipset, and other antennas will have different specs. So you may want to consider getting the iFly antenna.

Don, would it be possible to post some pics of your panel mounted 720. I have a PA28-181 and I'm just looking at some ideas as to where and how I want to mount mine. Thanks!
