We use an iPad mini in addition to the 720 because my wife won it as a door prize. It is OK, but locks up on occasion - too often to rely on - and I don't like the lack of controls/buttons.

If I were to buy a tablet to supplement the 720, It would likely be Android based.

Our iPad is mounted in the side window, co-pilots side, and is exposed to direct sun. That may be why it locks up. I made a sun screen for it yesterday - we'll see if that hepls it to operate more than an hour or not.

I'll put in a good word for the Nexus 7(2013) that you have now. This product is a market-leader, for its bright screen and low cost. This is also the primary device that I have been using for development, which gives you this advantage as well. The GPS on it can be flaky though, sometimes requiring a reboot for the GPS to recover. Approximately 10% of those using iFly for Android have the Nexus 7's, ahead of all other platforms.

I don't know enough to make any comparisons to other platforms though. Nearly all runner up platforms are Samsung Galaxy models of various types (tablets or phones).
