I'm curious if everyone seeing this is on a Sectional chart. I'd be surprised if you saw this same discrepancy on Vector Mode. Sectional are for VFR reference and many times while show the airport, obstruction or airspace slightly off from the extract Lat/Long. And this Sectional vs Actual discrepancy various from chart to chart.

For instance, have you ever planned a flight to another airport and noticed the iFly rendered the "waypoint" slightly off center from the airport location on the sectional. If you then switch to Vector Mode, you'll see it's spot on the airport. The FAA has a tolerance for the placement of things on VFR Sectionals. TAC and IFR charts are more precise as they should be.

I'd be interested for someone to make that same flight or test and flip from Sectional to Vector to see if there is a discrepancy between modes. Vector Mode is rendering airports, towers, airspaces precisely based on the FAA's database.

If someone will report back their findings, I've personally seen this on many sectional charts... My waypoint or position over the sectional being slight off, up to a mile in cases. That's why I use Vector Mode more around critical airspaces. I hope this helps.

Hi Shane,

You wrote, in part...

I always fly VFR so use only sectionals view, so didn't even cross my mind to use vector view.

I'm reluctant to bug them again to set up flying their perimeter while talking to them and they reporting my position back to me.

But I can and will flip back and forth and see if on iFly I can see the airport jump back and forth about one mile.

But one thing that I,m not sure makes sense on your theory:
If it was a matter of sectional mode showing the airport center slightly off location (isn't,t that what you,re suggesting?) then when I flew the .displaced. Airport perimeter ATC should have seen me inside their perimeter on one side and OUTSIDE on the other. In fact the saw me inside on the almost whole circle (I flew about 300 degrees before we had seen enough an terminated the experiment.

I fly around Chicago a lot and trips out west and have never found my 720 showing anything but spot on the airport runway wherever I have been.

Cheers

I hope the same problem isn't true of Restricted Areas.
