A custom instrument that would show the time remaining before starting a turn to the next waypoint leg. It would be based on the angle difference between the legs, ete to the waypoint, and a standard rate turn. It would start flashing about 10 seconds to go. At zero, the flight plan could switch to the next leg, (Steering auto pilot in the wings?)

It may not be exactly what you want, but this one is already there. The "ETE to Waypoint" always shows the next waypoint (if any) and counts down until passage, at which time it resets and starts the countdown to the next waypoint. If there is no (next) waypoint entered, the waypoint instrument(s) disappear. Also, the iFly dedicated hardware platforms are already capable of steering an autopilot in experimental aircraft.

I want to turn inside the corner, not outside (the red line, not the blue line). Not passing the waypoint is why the navigator needs another condition to switch to the next leg, namely with the ETT timing out.

Yeah, after I posted I saw that you already had the ETE instrument up, so I read a little closer and figured out what you were asking. My 430 does exactly that; it anticipates the turn and tells you (and the autopilot) to "TURN NOW" before you cross the waypoint such that a standard rate no wind turn will roll you out on the new course line. I don't know how an autopilot connected to iFly handles this now; I don't know if it anticipates the turn (red line) or overflies the turn (blue line) before making a course change. It would certainly be nice if it anticipated it, especially on an approach where course guidance is much more critical. In slower aircraft, overflying the waypoint (instead of anticipating the turn) on a 90deg turn to final in a stiff crosswind can blow you far enough off final to require going missed.

Great idea, I would love to have an instrument available to show the ETT. Maybe have it automatically appear a couple of minutes before the time to turn.
