I took the plunge and bought the Radena Skyradar for my ifly720. After wrestling with getting power to it from my panel, the unit sprang to life and was connected to my 720 with little problem.
I was a little concerned about where to mount the receiver so that it would get a good signal, but in the end, I put it on top of my battery box in the floor of the cockpit (RV6), and fed the Radena GPS through a hole running to my dash. With the chassis mounted ADSB and Network antennas, I have no problem getting signals almost immediately on power up from inside of my metal roof hangar. I'm pretty sure I won't miss the Sagetech since I will probably be purchasing a different AHRS anyhow.
During the course of my brief shakedown flight, I did note a few items that could improve the weather related items being displayed. I do suspect that v7.5 might address some of these items. I'm not running the beta versions.:
1. I really would like to see the weather overlayed on top of the other screens such as the sectional charts, approach plates, vector maps, etc.... I know this might obscure the display, but would like the option. Is there a way to use transparency for the weather overlay?
2. The vector that indicates wind direction could also indicate speed if flags were added to the vector (5 knots, 10, 20, 30 knots, etc).
3. Shade the reporting stations by current conditions (VFR, Marginal VFR, IFR, Low IFR). This would allow for a quick analysis of the big weather picture without selecting the metars one at a time and building the picture in my head. This is one of my favorite tools from the aviationweather web page -- something similiar in the air would be really useful.
4. The default information selected for the Weather Reports (when I tap the screen) should be sticky. Once I pick METAR option, it should always display METAR info first unless I change it again.
5. Can we get an instrument that shows ADSB status? something that would indicate age of the last weather update, and current link status with the receiver?
In all, I *do* like the 720 a lot. Thanks for all of the hard work you've put into it! I don't miss my previous GPS navigation software at all!
