Hi Dan:

I agree it would be nice if iFly could show the nearest Center Sector Freq. Would save me the time of having to search on the IFR chart.

I expect that someone would have to hand code Sector freqs in for every airport (if you used NRST to find it) since I'm not aware of any data base that links Sector frequencies with airports.

Just for the esoteric discussion, perhaps the reason that IFR freqs aren't on the VFR Sectionals is because they're technically not a VFR thing. (A bit frustrating when you look for the Controlling Agency for a MOA on the VFR chart and all it sometimes tells you is that ZAB, without frequencies, is the Controlling Agency.) As you probably already know, Flight Following is a VFR "service" that IFR Centers provide on an "workload permitting" basis.

So, consistent with this, there is no guarantee that they have to take you when you ask for FF. I've been told "unable" when the wx somewhere down the road is lousy and they're all backed up.

My and OldPilot's point was that Gary already had access to what he wanted, not that a NRST ARTCC list is undesirable.

But ... what circumstances cause you guys to need to look up frequencies? Your initial callup freq is available in the departure airport information (for home airport you probably have it memorized) and after that ATC gives you the freqs as you progress from controller to controller or from repeater to repeater. They even give you the tower frequency when they drop you and you're headed to a towered airport. I can't remember the last time I had to look up a Center or TRACON frequency, FF or IFR. CTAFs, yes; I don't think ATC has ever given my one of those. But Center? I don't get it.

About the only time I can think of is you're flying along VFR without flight following and decide you want it. That's when you can click on the nearest airport and find it.

Not all of us fly out of controlled airports, much less ones with ATC. I just call the nearest approach control to my early route (there always seems to be one), they ask where I'm going, and automatically put me on FF, whether I want it or not. Perhaps that's a bored controller in Oklahoma thing?

There is an ARTCC controller for the entire US, regardless of whether your airport is a class B, C, D, or E airport. If you are in class B or C, you would call approach control. If in class D or E you can contact the controlling ARTCC (after you finish talking to the class D tower).
