This request is the epitome of laziness, I know.

I'm planning a flight from AZ to FL. I can't make it non-stop. Will need at least one stop for fuel, perhaps two for overnight.

So I go to Flight Plan page and enter my home airport and Pensacola as my Destination.

Then I look at the big (presumably) Great Circle route on the chart to get a feel for the route and to start looking for cheap fuel for a stop.

I tap an airport and "insert" to add the fuel stop to the flight plan.

I know I can designate that stop as "Landing" in the flight plan. But what I really would like is for iFly to break up the plan into Legs.

So how about a "Leg" button, where it automagically makes Leg #1 out of this flight plan? (Eg. "Name of Flight Plan" [Leg 1])

Then, it automagically sets my fuel stop Landing as the new Departure point for Leg #2 and keeps my original Destination (Pensacola) as my Final, unless I enter a new Landing point for Leg #2.

It knows I'm done breaking Legs when my Destination remains as Pensacola. Then the "Leg" button would gray out.

How about adding a pilot defined range per lag to the aircraft profile. Then when you plan a flight that is longer than your range, the flight planner suggests legs based on your range. You could then look at fuel prices in that area and plan a landing/leg.

Hi ErgoMike - I don't see any advantage to numbering each leg. I fly long X-countries all the time - sometimes with 5 or 6 fuel stops. Here is what I do when planning the route: Let's say we're going from Utah to Miami. I enter 'Flight Planning" and put Miami as my departure point and Brigham City as my destination. That gives me the Great Circle course. Then starting at Brigham City and using the measuring tool, I pan back along the GC course line. When I have gone 250 to 300nm, I look for a suitable airport for a fuel stop. When I find the best airport ('Nearest' function helps a lot here) I just 'add' the airport to my flight plane. Then I start panning again to start looking for my next fuel stop. And on and on until I get to Miami. After I have added Miami for the second time, I then delete Miami as my departure point. This now makes Brigham City as my departure point. Now I go fly the route. Even when I spend the night somewhere, the next morning all I have to do is turn my iFly on and we're ready to fly the next leg. - Jim Williams

Clever trick. But maybe I'm missing something. When you're on an intermediate leg, doesn't your FINAL instrument always show Miami? I have my instruments set up to show waypoint info on the left, info to FINAL on right.
