Jim - You could do what I do. I fly at 120 knots. If I want to fly to something that is 10 nautical miles away, I know that I will get there in around 5 minutes. :) Jim Williams

Seriously, Jim - I thought more about this. In the good old days when all we had were paper charts, I could measure distance on charts using the distance between the first two knuckles on my index finger. (About 7 nm.) Back then I flew at only 70 knots, I guess :) Anyway, I can't do that on my tablet because of screen zooming. I wonder if the guys at AP could make another instrument kind of like my knuckles? Maybe just a little bar down the edge of the screen, the length of which would be so many nautical miles relative to the current zoom factor(the number of N.M. would be at the bottom of the line). The length and number would vary depending on the zoom factor. I think that by just looking at this "instrument" one could judge distances pretty well on the current screen. - Jim Williams

Just one more thought - then I'm going to stop thinking! This new "instrument" doesn't even need a bar. Just pop a number up in a corner on the screen. The number would be the nautical miles the narrow side of the screen currently shows. - Jim

They just added the new distance measuring feature. All you have to know is how many miles you travel in a minute.

Jim,

We have this on our "Dynamic Distance Ring" feature. You just need to enable it:
1) To turn on the Dynamic Distance Ring: "Setup -> Map Settings -> Distance Rings -> Dynamic"
2) To enable ETE on the ring: "Setup -> Map Settings -> Show ETE on Dynamic Ring"
Now, anytime you pan to a new location, the ring will show you distance and Estimated-Time-Enroute (Based on ground speed)
(Depending on what product version you are on, these details may be slightly different.)
Once enabled, anytime you are panning around the map the ring will show you distance and ETE to that point, based on your ground speed.
Hope this helps!
Walter

Walter,
Is the ETE feature for dynamic rings available on the iPad app?
I don't see it in the options you mentioned; but I am on version 8.0.65 as a non-beta tester. Maybe not in this version?

Thanks, John

Sorry for the confusion. It may not be in the production iPad app, but a new release is coming very soon - it's already been submitted to Apple for review.
